BELOVED KIDS’ READING CLUB RETURNS FOR THE SUMMER

For Besore Memorial and Coyle Free Library Patrons:

Mr. and Mrs. G’s Reading Club is back for another season at the Besore Memorial and Coyle Free Libraries! From now through Aug. 31, 2021, students in grades K-12 are invited to sign up for the reading club. Each participant must hold a current library card with their local Franklin County branch. Upon sign-up, participants receive a crisp $2 bill and their first blue slip, on which they will record their name; a parent or guardian’s signature; the title, author, and page count of the book they read; and a brief summary of the book. To get the next $2 bill, students must return the completed slip to their library in exchange for a new one, for a maximum of five entries per person.

Participants have the chance to win one of three cash prizes: third prize — $50; second prize — $100; first prize — $250. All entries must be returned by Aug. 31. Winners from each library’s group of participants will be selected the first week of September.

Hank and Jan Guarriello, affectionately dubbed “Mr. and Mrs. G,” first sponsored the club in 2018 to spark children’s lifelong love of reading. The program originally invited first- through eighth-grade students to participate, but has expanded this year to include kindergarteners and high school students. “We just want every kid to find the fun of reading, no matter how old they are,” said Mr. G.

He is also glad to have his wife join him in running the club this year. “It’s wonderful to watch children find a book they love,” said Mrs. G. “This is a gift that will stick with them for life, and we are blessed to watch them discover it.”

To pick up an entry form, go to either Besore Memorial Library in Greencastle or Coyle Free Library in Chambersburg. Interested students may receive their forms from Besore’s circulation desk or from Coyle’s children’s room. For additional information, please contact Kiely Fisher of Besore Memorial Library at kfisher@fclspa.org, or Sarah Applegate of Coyle Free Library at sapplegate@fclspa.org.
