(FORT DETRICK, Md.) — Fort Detrick will celebrate the U.S. Army’s 246th Birthday with a ceremony and cake-cutting event June 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. on the Blue and Gray Field pavilion on Fort Detrick.

“Our Soldiers and Civilians have been defending the nation and securing our freedoms for 246 years. Today we honor the Army’s workforce for its dedication to duty, the nation and our citizens. This is also an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the nation’s ideals, our Oaths of Office and the Army values,” said Fort Detrick U.S. Army Garrison Commander Col. Dexter Nunnally.

We are honored to have retired Army Col. Fred Schumacher, active member in the Frederick community and member of the Frederick County Veterans Advisory Council, serve as guest speaker. Schumacher retired from active duty after completing 35 years of commissioned service.

A cake cutting ceremony will take place immediately following the ceremony.
